== Overview ==

'''Padded Hats''' are a custom crafting category available in the Tailoring menu. They solve a long-standing problem in Ultima Online: cloth hats look great but carry no armor properties, while leather caps have stats but limited style options. Padded Hats give you the '''appearance of a cloth hat''' with the '''armor properties of leather'''. This means they can be crafted with '''Runic Sewing Kits''' to roll magical properties, just like any other leather armor piece.

In short, Padded Hats let you look the way you want without sacrificing your head slot stats.

== Crafting ==

Padded Hats are found under the '''"Padded Hats"''' category in the Tailoring craft menu. To craft one, use a '''Sewing Kit''' (or a '''Runic Sewing Kit''' for magical properties) and have the required materials in your backpack.

'''All Padded Hats require:'''
* '''4 Leather''' (any tier — regular through Ethereal)
* '''10 Cloth'''

Since these are leather-based items, the leather type you use determines the base resistances, just like crafting any other leather armor. Using higher-tier leathers such as Barbed, Daemonic, or Ethereal will produce hats with stronger base resists.

== Available Styles ==

{| class="wikitable"
! Hat Style !! Min Skill !! Max Skill
|-
| Padded Floppy Hat || 50.0 || 80.0
|-
| Padded Skull Cap || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Bandana || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Cap || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Wide Brim Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Straw Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Tall Straw Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Wizard's Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Bonnet || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Feathered Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Tricorne Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Jester Hat || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Flower Garland || 60.0 || 90.0
|-
| Padded Kasa || 60.0 || 90.0
|}

The Padded Floppy Hat is slightly easier to craft at 50.0 minimum skill. All other styles require 60.0 Tailoring.

== Using Runic Sewing Kits ==

The real power of Padded Hats comes from crafting them with a '''Runic Sewing Kit'''. When you use a runic kit instead of a regular sewing kit, the hat rolls random magical properties just like any runic-crafted leather armor piece. This can include bonuses to resistances, stat increases, skill bonuses, and other item properties.

Since cloth hats normally cannot receive these properties, Padded Hats are the only way to get a runic-quality hat in styles like the Wizard's Hat, Tricorne, or Jester Hat.

== Tips ==

* '''Use your best leather.''' The leather tier sets the base resists. Pair high-tier leather with a runic kit for the strongest possible hat.
* '''Fashion with function.''' Pick the hat style that matches your character's look — the stats come from the leather and runic kit, not the shape.
* '''The Padded Floppy Hat''' is a good practice piece at 50.0 skill if you're still building your Tailoring up.
* '''Cloth is easy to obtain.''' You need 10 cloth per hat, which can be cut from bolts of cloth purchased cheaply from NPC tailors.
* '''These are dyeable.''' Like other leather armor, Padded Hats can be dyed to match your outfit.
