Overview

The Greatest Mongbat is a unique world boss that spawns automatically somewhere in the world. Only one exists at a time — when it is slain, a new one spawns at a random location on a random facet. It could appear in Felucca, Trammel, Ilshenar, Malas, Tokuno, or Ter Mur.

When a player finds and defeats The Greatest Mongbat, a world broadcast announces the kill to all players on the server.

This creature is not tameable.

Finding The Greatest Mongbat

There is no quest marker, NPC hint, or tracking method for locating The Greatest Mongbat. It spawns at a completely random land tile on a random facet. Finding it is a matter of exploration, luck, or word-of-mouth from other players.

Tips:

• It will not spawn in water.
• It can appear in any open outdoor area, including near towns or deep in the wilderness.
• Use the Tracking skill or simply explore off the beaten path.
• When someone kills it, the world broadcast will confirm a new one has spawned somewhere else.

Special Abilities

The Greatest Mongbat has access to several devastating special attacks that it uses periodically during combat:

• Crimson Meteor — Calls down a shower of flaming meteors in a 4×4 area around the target, dealing 70–125 fire damage and leaving fire fields on the ground.
• Stygian Fireball — Launches a barrage of energy projectiles at a single target over several seconds, culminating in a massive 120–150 damage hit.
• Fire Column — Creates a line of fire fields stretching 8 tiles in the direction of its target, dealing ongoing fire damage to anyone standing in them.
• Dragon Breath — An innate breath attack dealing heavy fire damage.
• Weapon Abilities — Bladeweave and Talon Strike.
• Auto Dispel — Automatically dispels summoned creatures.
• Cannot Flee — The Greatest Mongbat will fight to the death and will not run when low on health.

Strategy

• Bring high Fire Resistance — the majority of its special attacks deal fire damage.
• Spread out to avoid multiple players being hit by Crimson Meteor.
• Move out of fire fields quickly as they deal continuous damage.
• Watch for the Stygian Fireball wind-up (a series of projectiles) and be prepared with heals.
• It can be provoked and peacemaking works on it, making bard skills useful.
• A tamer with a strong pet combined with a healer is an effective team composition.

• Its Crimson Meteor ability is visually similar to the effects used by high-end dragons.
• Despite its small body, it has 30,000 hit points — more than many champion spawns.
• The fire column attack can block narrow passages if fought in tight spaces.
