Emino's Undertaking is a Ninja tutorial quest that introduces players to the core skills and stealth mechanics of the Ninja profession. The quest follows a linear story in which you prove your worth to Daimyo Emino by completing a series of trials involving stealth, trap navigation, espionage, and combat. It takes place primarily in the Malas facet, in and around Daimyo Emino's residence and a network of caves and an abandoned inn.
This quest can only be completed once per character — it does not reset.
Overview
Daimyo Emino is a powerful lord and collector who seeks a capable hireling. To earn his trust, you must pass a gauntlet of trials designed to test whether you have what it takes to be a true Ninja. Along the way, you'll learn to use the Hiding and Stealth skills, navigate teleporters, avoid deadly traps, gather intelligence by eavesdropping, recover a stolen sword, and fight enemy henchmen.
The quest rewards you with profession-appropriate Ninja equipment. However, your final reward is affected by your behavior during the quest — if you steal treasure from the inn, Daimyo Emino notices and your reward is reduced.
Getting Started
To begin the quest, locate Daimyo Emino in his residence in the Malas facet. He can be found at his home northwest of Zento City. Speak with him to receive the quest offer.
Note|This is a tutorial quest. If you leave the quest area (Emino's compound in Malas) before completing certain steps, you'll receive a reminder about using the Radar Map (ALT+R) to navigate.
Quest Walkthrough
Step 1: Find Daimyo Emino
| Objective | Locate Daimyo Emino and accept his test |
|---|
Your first task is simply to find and speak with Daimyo Emino. He introduces himself as a passionate collector who is vengeful toward those who impede his reign. He offers you a chance to prove yourself as his hireling.
Step 2: Find Elite Ninja Zoel
| Objective | Find Elite Ninja Zoel in Emino's backyard |
|---|
Emino directs you to his backyard where Elite Ninja Zoel is waiting. Speak to Zoel before exploring the yard or the cave entrance. Zoel is sardonic and warns that your only task is to survive the abandoned inn — and that many before you have failed.
Step 3: Enter the Cave
| Objective | Enter the cave and walk through it |
|---|
Zoel sends you into a cave. Walk through the passageway, following the path. You will be tested as you travel along. The objective completes when you reach the far end of the cave passage.
Step 4: Sneak Past the Guardians
| Objective | Use your Ninja training to move invisibly past the magical guardians |
|---|
You encounter a glowing archway flanked by demon-head statues that breathe fire and watch your movements. To pass through safely, you must use the Hiding skill to vanish from sight, and then Stealth to move slowly through the entryway while hidden.
How to Hide and Stealth:
Open your Skills window and locate the Hiding skill. Click the blue button next to it to activate it. Once successfully hidden, you can move slowly through the guarded archway. If you're detected, stop and re-hide before attempting to pass again.
Note|If you're struggling, the quest system will provide an additional hint about using active skills from the Codex of Wisdom (F1 key).
Step 5: Use the Teleporter
| Objective | Step on the teleporter tile to be transported to a new location |
|---|
Beyond the guarded doorway is a short passageway ending in a special tile on the floor — a teleporter. Step onto it to be transported to Daimyo Emino's location. This is your introduction to the teleporter tiles you'll use throughout the rest of the quest.
Step 6: Deliver the Note to Zoel
| Objective | Bring the note to Elite Ninja Zoel and speak with him |
|---|
Daimyo Emino congratulates you on surviving the first trial and surviving Zoel's temper. He rewards you with Ninja Leggings and Gloves — the only armor a true Ninja needs. He then gives you a Note for Zoel and sends you back to deliver it.
To deliver the note, drag the note from your backpack and drop it on Zoel's body. Zoel is located near the cave entrance.
Note|If you lose the note, return to Daimyo Emino and he will write you a new one, though he won't be pleased about it.
Step 7: Gather Information at the Abandoned Inn
| Objective | Take the Blue Teleporter to the Abandoned Inn and quietly look around to gain information |
|---|
After reading Emino's note, Zoel sends you on the next trial. He suspects an associate has betrayed Daimyo Emino. You must investigate the Abandoned Inn to find out what happened.
Use the Blue Teleporter Tile in Daimyo Emino's residence to travel to the inn. Once there, quietly approach the inn and look around. You'll automatically overhear a conversation when you reach the correct area inside.
You discover Jedah Entille, a former student of Emino, speaking with a shady figure. She has stolen Emino's beloved sword and plans to hide until he forgets about it. This is the intelligence you need.
Step 8: Report to Daimyo Emino
| Objective | Return through the blue teleporter and tell Daimyo Emino what you overheard |
|---|
Head back through the Blue Teleporter and report your findings to Daimyo Emino. He is troubled by the news of Jedah's betrayal but prioritizes recovering the sword over dealing with her directly.
Step 9: Search for the Sword
| Objective | Take the White Teleporter and search chests for the sword in the treasure room |
|---|
Emino sends you to recover his stolen katana. Use the White Teleporter in Emino's backyard to reach the inn's treasure room. Search through the boxes and chests to find Emino's Katana.
Emino provides you with several heal potions and additional Ninja clothing for this part of the quest. He also warns you:
Important: Emino explicitly asks you not to take anything else from the inn besides the sword. If you loot other treasure from chests during this phase, the quest tracks this as "stolen treasure" and your final reward will be reduced. Only take the sword.
Note|To use a heal potion, make sure at least one hand is free and double-click the bottle.
| Objective | Walk through the hallway, avoiding traps |
|---|
After finding the sword, you must pass through a narrow hallway filled with traps. The enclosed space makes this dangerous. Watch the trap patterns carefully — they fire on a timer, and you can time your movement to pass through gaps in their cycles.
Move deliberately and use heal potions if you take damage. Don't rush.
Step 11: Return the Sword
| Objective | Bring the sword back to Daimyo Emino |
|---|
With the sword in hand, retrace your path back through the cave and teleporter system to Daimyo Emino. The objective completes when you exit the dungeon area (moving south past the cave boundary).
Note|If you lose or drop the sword, Emino will send you back to retrieve it: "What? You have returned without the sword? You need to go back and get it again!"
Step 12: Slay the Henchmen
| Objective | Kill 3 of Jedah's Henchmen |
|---|
As you leave the treasure area with the sword, screams echo through the chamber — Jedah's Henchmen have discovered your presence. You must slay 3 Henchmen before returning to Emino.
Your quest log tracks your progress (e.g. "Henchmen killed: 1 / 3"). If you try to return to Emino before finishing, you'll be told to continue fighting.
Step 13: Deliver the Sword to Daimyo Emino
| Objective | Bring the sword to Daimyo Emino by following the path back to the teleporter |
|---|
After slaying the three henchmen, retrace your steps through the chamber back to the teleporter and return to Daimyo Emino. Hand him the sword (drag and drop it onto him) to complete the quest.
Rewards
Your reward depends on whether you only took the sword or also looted other treasure from the inn during Step 9.
Full Reward (Honorable Completion)
If you took only the sword and left everything else untouched, Emino is impressed and gives you the full set of gifts. He directs you toward Zento City, suggesting you visit Ansella Gryen upon arrival. He also points out a Moongate to the right of the cave entrance that leads to Zento.
Reduced Reward (Greedy Completion)
If you looted extra treasure from the inn, Emino notices and says:
"You have earned these gifts for returning the sword. For that I thank you. However, your reward has been lessened by your greed in the treasure room. Do not think I did not notice your full pockets."
You still complete the quest but receive a reduced reward.
Tips
- Practice Hiding before entering the guardian room. Your Hiding skill should be high enough to successfully hide on demand.
- Time the traps in the hallway. Watch their patterns before moving through — they fire at regular intervals.
- Don't loot the treasure room beyond taking the sword. The quest specifically tracks whether you took extra items, and it costs you rewards.
- Keep heal potions ready with at least one free hand for the trap hallway and henchmen fight.
- Use the Radar Map (ALT+R) to orient yourself within the cave system and Emino's compound.
- If you lose the Note for Zoel or Emino's Katana at any point, return to Emino to have them replaced.
