Getting Started
Download & Install
- Download the Banes World Launcher.
- Run the installer and click Yes when prompted to "Allow this device to make changes." This grants the admin access needed to install the full client. The launcher also keeps your client up to date with any future server changes.
- Once installation is complete, the launcher will display three buttons:
- Left — Classic UO
- Middle — UOSteam
- Right — Razor
- You can launch and play directly from here by clicking any of the three buttons.

Recommended Setup: Razor Enhanced + Classic UO
For the best experience, we recommend using Razor Enhanced with Classic UO. This is the most current and well-supported option.
- Download and install Razor Enhanced.
- On the Razor Enhanced configuration screen, set the following paths:
- Client Path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ultima Online Banes World - Classic UO Path:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ultima Online Banes World\ClassicUO
- Client Path:
- Use the middle launch button to log in.
- For a step-by-step walkthrough, see this installation video
Using Your Own Razor, UOSteam, or Other Client
If you prefer to use your own copy of Razor, UOSteam, or another assistant program:
- Point the client path to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Ultima Online Banes World - Be aware that not all versions of Razor are compatible. The version bundled with the launcher has been tested and confirmed to work.
- UOSteam has not been updated in a long time and may have intermittent issues. Consider switching to Razor Enhanced, which can run UOS scripts and offers a similar workflow.
You MUST use the Banes World client by downloading the launcher, once you do that you can connect by IP Banes.World and port 2595.
If you do not use the banes world client things will not work properly as we use a custom client.
Keeping Your Client Updated
If you are using an external program to connect (rather than launching through the Banes World launcher), run the launcher periodically to pull down any updates.
Signs you may need to update:
- Missing item or NPC names
- Objects appearing without labels or graphics
To update properly:
- Log out of the game completely.
- Run the Banes World launcher and let it finish updating.
- Log back in.
Warning|Do not copy any files into the launcher folder. The launcher tracks every file in its directory and will overwrite or replace anything it doesn't recognize. Adding files manually can corrupt your installation.
Troubleshooting
If you are experiencing freezing, disconnects, or performance issues, work through these steps in order:
A. Run the Client as Administrator
This resolves the majority of issues.
- One-time: Right-click the Banes World shortcut and select Run as administrator.
- Permanent: Right-click the shortcut → Properties → Compatibility tab → check Run this program as an administrator → click Apply.
B. Clear the Client Cache
Corrupted or outdated cache files can cause visual glitches and instability.
- Navigate to your Ultima Online install folder and delete
multicache.dat. - If the issue persists, also delete your user data folder:
Documents\EA Games\Ultima Online Legacy\User Data\(Your Account Name)- Note: This will reset your in-game settings (macros, hotbars, etc.).
- After clearing the cache, expect some brief loading delays when visiting areas for the first time as the map data is rebuilt.
C. Update Your Drivers
- Run Windows Update to ensure your OS is current.
- Check for graphics driver updates:
- NVIDIA: Use GeForce Experience or the NVIDIA driver page.
- AMD: Use AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition or the AMD support page.
D. Check Your Network Connection
The server will disconnect players with high latency.
- A wired (Ethernet) connection is strongly recommended over Wi-Fi.
- If using Wi-Fi, ensure you have a strong, stable signal.
- Mobile hotspots and cellular connections are especially prone to latency spikes and dropped connections depending on your area's coverage.
E. Running Multiple Clients
Running more than one client on the same machine will always cause some degree of instability. If you need to multi-client:
- Copy your entire
Ultima Online Banes Worldfolder to a second location. - Point the second client to the copied folder.
- Important: When an update is released, you will need to copy the updated files to the second folder manually.
F. UOSteam Issues
UOSteam has not been actively maintained in years and will occasionally behave unpredictably. If you are experiencing frequent problems with UOSteam, consider migrating to Razor Enhanced, which:
- Can run existing UOS scripts
- Has a similar interface and workflow
- Is actively updated and maintained
G. Older Operating Systems
While Ultima Online is a classic game, the Banes World client and server-side packages are built on newer frameworks. Windows 10 or later is recommended.
If you are running an older OS (Windows 7, 8, etc.), you may experience occasional compatibility issues. Unfortunately there is no reliable workaround — some older shards use legacy clients and server packages, but Banes World runs a modern build on both sides.
H. Can't Connect!!
Windows 11 security settings will identify any program that has not been submitted to Microsoft as "unknown" and will potentially block it. This impacts much of the open source and individual programmers. You can turn off smart app control by typing smart app in the search bar and disable.
Also sometimes Windows 11 will block the program via firewall. Try to allow the client.exe in the Banes World folder thru your firewall. You can do this by typing firewall in the search box and selecting allow app thru firewall. Select outgoing rules on left the new rule on right. Select Program then find client.exe in your BW folder. Allow (top selection).
If you are running a 3rd party anti-virus. Sometimes these will flag it as an unknown program. You will need to allow it through your anti virus.
