Charity Box

Overview

The Charity Box is a community-driven donation system on Banes World that allows veteran players to give away items they no longer need to newer players who can use them. It works similarly to the Global Trade Market, but instead of buying and selling, items are donated freely and claimed at no cost by players with young accounts.

If you have been playing for a while and have surplus gear, resources, or tools collecting dust in your bank, consider dropping them in a Charity Box. Your old hand-me-downs could make a huge difference for someone just starting out — that set of armor or stack of ingots you have outgrown might be exactly what a new player needs to get on their feet.

Where to Find a Charity Box

Charity Boxes (look for the red crate) can be found at the following locations:

  • Main Street — Look for the red box near the other community services.
  • Trammel Training Room — Conveniently placed where new players are already training their skills.
  • Your own house — Purchase a personal Charity Box from the Token Vendor and place it at home.

Who Can Use the Charity Box

Anyone can donate items to the Charity Box regardless of account age.

However, only new players with young accounts can take items from it. If your account is older than 15 days, you will not be able to claim donated items — only donate them. This ensures the charity system benefits the players who need it most.

Please be kind, any abuse (taking all the items and selling for gold etc) will not be tolerated. This is a kind thing for new people, please treat it as such :)

What Can Be Donated

The Charity Box accepts a wide variety of items across many categories:

Category Item Types
Currencies Vendor tokens and other tradeable currency items
Pets Shrink Items (shrunken pets) and Ethereal Mounts
Spells — Reagents All reagent types
Spells — Scrolls Spell scrolls
Spells — Wands Wands
Spells — Spellbooks All spellbook types
Resources — Granite All granite types
Resources — Leather All hides and leather
Resources — Metal All ore and ingots
Resources — Scales All scale types
Resources — Wood All logs and boards
Tools — Crafting Crafting tools
Tools — Harvesting Harvest tools
Tools — Runic Runic crafting tools
Equipment — Armor All armor pieces
Equipment — Weapon All weapon types
Equipment — Clothing All clothing
Equipment — Jewelry Rings, bracelets, necklaces, earrings
Equipment — Talisman All talismans
Equipment — Quiver All quiver types
Equipment — Light Equipable light sources (lanterns, torches)

The Charity Box accepts far more item types than the Global Trade Market — including full equipment sets, spellbooks, reagents, scrolls, and even shrunken pets. This makes it an excellent way to pass along gear you have replaced.

Items that cannot be donated include soulbound (blessed) items, insured items, quest items, and non-empty containers.

How to Donate Items

  1. Find a Charity Box (the red crate on Main Street, in the Training Room, or in your house).
  2. Drop items onto the box. Each item will be added to your personal charity stock and a confirmation message will appear.
  3. That is it — your donated items are now visible to all new players browsing the charity.

You can donate up to 250 items at a time. You can reclaim any of your donated items at any point if you change your mind.

How to Claim Donated Items (New Players)

  1. Find a Charity Box and double-click it to open the interface.
  2. Navigate to Charity in the left-side tree menu.
  3. Browse the categories to find items you need, or use the Search bar to look for something specific.
  4. Click the Take button next to an item to claim it. The item is placed directly in your backpack.

Remember, you must have a young account to take items. If your account is older than the age limit, the system will let you know.

The Charity Interface

The gump has two main sections in the left-side tree:

Charity View (Taking Items)

Shows all items currently donated by other players across the shard, organized by category. Each listing shows the item's icon, name, and a Take button. You can also toggle Show My Stock to see your own donations mixed into the view.

Stock View (Managing Donations)

Shows only the items you have personally donated. From here you can:

  • View what you have donated.
  • Reclaim individual items if you change your mind (returns the item to your backpack).
  • Reclaim All to pull back all your donated items from the current page at once.

Footer Tabs

The footer section on the left side has three tabs:

  • Stats — A summary of your charity activity.
  • Given — A log of items you have donated and who claimed them.
  • Taken — A log of items you have claimed from other donors.

A Note to Veteran Players

The Charity Box is one of the best ways to support the community and help new players feel welcome on Banes World. Here are some ideas for items that make great donations:

  • Starter armor and weapons — That platemail set or katana you replaced with something better is perfect for a new adventurer.
  • Reagents and scrolls — New mages burn through reagents fast and often cannot afford large quantities yet.
  • Crafting resources — Extra ingots, boards, leather, and ore help new crafters get started without hours of harvesting.
  • Tools — Spare crafting tools, runic tools, and harvest tools are always appreciated.
  • Spellbooks — A full spellbook is a huge time-saver for a player who just rolled a mage.
  • Pets — If you have a decent shrunk pet you no longer use, a new tamer would love it.
  • Tokens and currency — Even small amounts of tokens help new players access vendor items.

Every donation is tracked in your Given log, so you can see exactly who benefited from your generosity. The system is designed so your items only go to players who truly need them — established players cannot take from the charity, only give to it.

Tips

  • Check the charity regularly if you are a new player — other players donate items frequently, and good gear goes fast.
  • Donate after upgrading — Every time you replace a piece of gear, consider tossing the old one in the Charity Box instead of selling it to an NPC vendor for a few gold.
  • The Training Room box is convenient — New players training at the Training Room can check the charity between practice sessions without traveling.
  • Buy a box for your house — If you craft regularly and generate surplus items, keeping a Charity Box at home makes it easy to donate on the spot.
  • Reclaim is always available — If you accidentally donate something you wanted to keep, just open the interface, go to Stock, and reclaim it.
