Template:Stub The Bribe System (also known as BOD Bribing) is an under-the-table mechanic that allows players to exchange a Bulk Order Deed (BOD) for an "improved" or mutated version in exchange for gold. This system is available on vendors that support bulk orders and operates independently of standard turn-in rewards.
How to Access
- Stand within 2 tiles of a vendor that supports BODs.
- Right-click the vendor and select Bribe from the context menu.
- The vendor will ask you to target a BOD located in your backpack.
- Click on the desired BOD to initiate the bribe negotiation.
Step-by-Step Process
- After targeting a BOD, the vendor will calculate the cost and announce it:
- "If you help me out, I'll help you out. I can replace that bulk order with a better one, but it's gonna cost you ~1_amt~ gold coin. Payment is due immediately. Just hand me the order and I'll pull the old switcheroo."
- Drag the targeted BOD onto the vendor to pay the requested gold.
- If you have sufficient funds, the vendor will mutate the deed and return it to your backpack with improved conditions.
- The transaction is complete. You may now turn in the mutated BOD as normal.
Mechanics & Rules
Bribe Cost
- The base cost depends on the BOD's type, completion status, and server configuration (handled by the bulk order system).
- The final cost is calculated as: Base Cost x Vendor's Bribe Multiplier
- Gold must be available in your backpack, bank box, or account currency (depending on server settings).
Bribe Multiplier
- Each vendor maintains its own hidden multiplier.
- Starts at a random value between 1 and 10 when the vendor spawns or loads.
- Increases by +1 after every successful bribe transaction with that specific vendor.
- If no bribes are made to a vendor for 25-30 days, the multiplier automatically halves to encourage fresh activity.
Guild Watch System
Frequent bribing attracts the attention of the Merchant's Guild. To prevent abuse, vendors can be placed under watch:
- After 3 or more recent bribes on a single vendor, there is a chance the vendor goes under watch for 2-3 hours.
- Probability scales with recent activity:
- 3 bribes: 50% chance
- 4 bribes: ~67% chance
- 5 bribes: ~83% chance
- 6+ bribes: Guaranteed
- While under watch, the vendor will refuse all bribe requests and display:
- "My business is being watched by the Guild, so I can't be messing with bulk orders right now. Come back when there's less heat on me!"
- Once the watch timer expires, the recent bribe counter resets to zero, and normal operations resume.
What the Bribe Actually Improves
Each successful bribe randomly selects one of the following three upgrades (whichever are still available):
| Upgrade | Effect | Applies To | |---------|--------|------------| | Exceptional | The BOD now requires all items to be exceptional | Smith, Tailor, Carpentry, Fletching, Tinkering, Cooking (most items) | | Quantity +5 | Increases the required item count by 5 (e.g., 15 to 20) | All BOD types where current amount is below 20 | | Material Tier | Advances the material one tier up (e.g., Dull Copper to Shadow Iron) | Smith, Tailor (leather), Carpentry (wood), Fletching, Tinkering |
- Note: Alchemy, Inscription, and Taming BODs can never become exceptional and do not have a material tier. They only benefit from the Quantity upgrade if not already at 20. This means they hit their ceiling after very few bribes (or only one).
Maxed-Out BODs
A BOD is considered maxed out when it has reached the highest possible state in every dimension the bribe can affect. At that point, the vendor will refuse to accept any further bribe and say:
- "I won't be able to replace that bulk order with a better one."
A BOD is maxed out when all of the following are true:
- The quantity is already at 20 (cannot be increased further)
- The BOD is already exceptional, OR its craft type simply cannot support exceptional (Alchemy, Inscription, Taming, or items on the exceptional exclusion list such as Arrows, Bolts, Gears, Pots, and various cooking/fletching items)
- The material is already at the highest tier for its type (Platinum/Petrified/Ethereal for metal, the top leather/wood/other tier for respective crafts), OR its craft type has no material system (Alchemy, Inscription, Cooking, Taming)
Once a BOD is in this state, no amount of further bribing will improve it. The only remaining option is to fill and turn it in as-is.
Tinkering special case: A Tinkering BOD with no material assigned (Material = None) is also considered maxed out and cannot be bribed, even if other dimensions are not at their peak. This is a known quirk of the system.
Partially Filled BODs
If any item on the BOD has already been started (even a single unit), the vendor will reject the bribe:
- "I am sorry to say I cannot work with a deed that is even partially filled."
- For Small BODs: any item with a count greater than 0 triggers this.
- For Large BODs: any entry with an amount greater than 0 triggers this.
You must turn in the BOD in its current state and receive a new one before attempting to bribe.
Pending Requests
- Only one pending bribe is allowed per player per vendor at a time.
- Targeting a new BOD while another request is pending will overwrite the previous one.
- If you cancel or change your mind, simply wait ~2 minutes for the pending state to expire, or target a different BOD to replace it.
Important Notes
- The "mutated" BOD typically features higher item quality requirements (exceptional, better materials) and/or higher quantities, which in turn yield greater reward points upon turn-in.
- Bribe transactions do not count toward your standard BOD turn-in cooldowns.
- Enhanced Clients receive a slight 100ms delay when opening the bribe menu to prevent UI threading issues. This does not affect functionality.
- If you attempt to pay but lack funds, the vendor will reject the transaction and no penalty is applied.
- Barkeepers and vendors with restricted trading permissions cannot be bribed.
- Since each bribe only applies one random upgrade, you may need several bribes to fully max out a BOD. Higher-tier BODs (Large) multiply their bribe cost by up to 4x based on the number of entries.
