Banes World offers two custom feeding items that automatically keep pets fed and loyal so they never risk going wild from neglect: the Feed Bucket and the Portable Feed Bucket. Both run on a timer and restore pet loyalty automatically, but they differ in where they work and what they feed. Both Feed Buckets are available in the UO Store.

In short: the Feed Bucket is a stationary feeding station. The Portable Feed Bucket does everything the Feed Bucket does, plus it works while carried in your pack and feeds you as well as your pets.
For stationary use, be sure a player is nearby or the server will set the area "inactive" and your pet will not eat properly. Do not just leave your pet on a trainer and leave the area for hours. You can drop by, see the "your pet eats" message and leave. Just be sure to come by now and then to let your pet feed. If another player is nearby your pet will eat as normal.
How Feeding Works
Both buckets check for hungry pets on a regular cycle and restore them to maximum loyalty. A fed pet shows a brief message overhead:
- *eats from the feed bucket*
Pets already at or near full loyalty are skipped — the buckets only act when a pet actually needs it. Because pet loyalty decays slowly, you may not see a bucket fire often; this is normal and means your pets are well cared for.
A bucket will only feed a pet that is:
- Controlled and currently alive
- Not stabled
- Out in the world (not on the internal map)
- Below the loyalty threshold
Both buckets persist through server restarts and resume their feeding cycle automatically.
Feed Bucket
The Feed Bucket is a stationary feeding station. It only works when placed on the ground — it does nothing while sitting in a pack or container.
When set down, it feeds any controlled pet within 10 tiles, regardless of who owns it. This makes it ideal as a shared feeding station at a stable, vendor area, or guild hall where many players gather with their pets.
The Feed Bucket never feeds players — only pets.
Portable Feed Bucket
The Portable Feed Bucket is the more versatile version. It has two modes depending on where it is.
Carried in Your Pack
When the bucket is in your backpack (or any container you are carrying), it feeds your own pets that are nearby and need feeding. Keep it on you and your loyal companions stay loyal automatically — perfect for long taming or breeding sessions.
While carried, it also feeds you, the owner. If you are hungry, it provides a magical meal and you will see:
- The feed bucket magically provides you a steak, and you find it delicious!
This only happens when the bucket is in your pack and you actually need food. If you are already full, the bucket quietly skips you.
Placed on the Ground
When set down, the Portable Feed Bucket behaves like the standard Feed Bucket: it feeds any controlled pet in range (12 tiles), regardless of owner. When placed on the ground it does not feed players — only pets.
Usage Summary
| Location | Feeds Your Pets | Feeds Other Players' Pets | Feeds You (Owner) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feed Bucket — on the ground | Yes (10 tiles) | Yes (10 tiles) | No |
| Portable — in your pack | Yes (nearby) | No | Yes (when hungry) |
| Portable — on the ground | Yes (12 tiles) | Yes (12 tiles) | No |
Tips
- Use a Feed Bucket as a permanent feeding station at a stable or guild hall for everyone's pets.
- Carry a Portable Feed Bucket during long taming or breeding sessions so you never have to feed manually — and it keeps you fed too.
- Drop your Portable Feed Bucket near a pet-heavy area and it becomes a shared station, just like the standard Feed Bucket.
- Neither bucket over-feeds — pets and players are only topped up when they genuinely need it.
