Trick or Treat is a Halloween Events event open to all players during the Halloween holiday window. Say the magic words to a vendor and you might come away with candy — or with a prank you won't soon forget.

{{#ifexist:Server News|'Event window: The event is active while the server's Halloween holiday is running. 10/1 until 11/2 (always subject to GM discretion).|}}

How to Play

  1. Find a vendor (any NPC shopkeeper).
  2. Type trick or treat in chat. The phrase just needs to appear in your message — capitalization doesn't matter.
  3. You will be prompted: Pick someone to Trick or Treat.
  4. Target a vendor within 15 tiles.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Only vendors carry candy. Targeting a player or creature replies That doesn't look friendly. Targeting an object replies There is little chance of getting candy from that!
  • Each vendor's supply is limited. After trick-or-treating a vendor, that vendor is out of candy for 5–10 minutes (That doesn't appear to have any more candy.). Move on to the next one.

Treats

Nine times out of ten, the vendor gives you a treat. They may say:

  • Oooooh, aren't you cute!
  • All right...This better not spoil your dinner!
  • Here you go! Enjoy!

You receive a random piece of candy in your backpack:

Candy
Wrapped Candy
Lollipops
Nougat Swirl
Taffy
Jelly Beans

Special Treats

A high Begging skill improves your chance of a rare special treat:

Begging skill Special treat chance
100–119 10%
120 or higher 15%

If luck is with you, you'll see: You receive a special treat! The special treat is a random one of the following festive items, and it **replaces** the normal candy for that round (you won't get both) [1]:

Special treat
Creepy Cake
Pumpkin Pizza
Grim Warning
Harvest Wine
Murky Milk
Mr. Plains Cookies
Skulls on a Pike
Chair in a Ghost Costume
Excellent Iron Maiden
Halloween Guillotine
Colored Small Webs
Flaming Scarecrow

Not everything on the list is food — you could just as easily be "treated" to a guillotine [1].

Tricks

About one time in ten, the vendor shouts TRICK! instead. One of the following happens:

Trick What happens Notes
Bleeding Pools of blood appear around you for 10 seconds Purely cosmetic — no damage
Re-Hue Your character is randomly re-hued after a moment Lasts 10 seconds, then wears off
Naughty Twin A twin copy of you appears beside you Lasts 5 seconds — see below

The twin is by far the most common trick.

The Naughty Twin

Your twin (named "[your name]'s Naughty Twin") looks exactly like you but is completely harmless — it will not attack you or anyone else. It vanishes after 5 seconds, but before it goes it will do one of two things:

  • Steal candy — Your naughty twin steals some of your candy. One candy item (wrapped candy, lollipops, nougat swirl, taffy, or jelly beans) disappears from your backpack.
  • Gate you — Your naughty twin teleports you away with a naughty laugh! You are flung to a random town on your map:
    • Mainland — Moonglow, Britain, Jhelom, Yew, Minoc, Trinsic, Skara Brae, or Magincia
    • Ilshenar — Compassion, Honesty, Honor, Humility, Justice, Sacrifice, Spirituality, Valor, or Chaos
    • Malas — Luna or Umbra
    • Tokuno — Isamu-Jima, Makoto-Jima, or Homare-Jima
    • TerMur — Royal City

Tips

  • The only trick that costs you anything is the candy theft — keep an eye on your stash when you hear TRICK!
  • The bleeding and re-hue tricks are purely visual and wear off within 10 seconds.
  • Being teleported is not dangerous, but you may land a long way from where you were heading.
  • If you're on a candy-collecting spree, a Begging 120+ character gives you the best odds of a special treat.
  • If the event isn't responding, check the date — Trick or Treat only works during the Halloween window.
