Beer Brewing

Ever wanted to crack open a cold one after a long day of slaying dragons? Now you can — and brew it yourself. The Beer Brewing system lets players craft a variety of long neck bottles using the Cooking skill, a set of brewing tools, and a distillery. Whether you're stocking the Casino bar or just kicking back at your house with friends, there's a beer for every occasion and skill level.

Getting Started

You'll need three things to start brewing:

  • Beer Brewer's Tools — Purchase these from the Beer Brewer NPC, located west of Main Street, just down the steps on the left. He's the talkative fellow who won't stop going on about "fun in a bottle."
  • Ingredients — The Beer Brewer sells hops, yeast, and water. Stock up before you start.
  • A Distillery — All beer recipes require access to a distillery. You must be near one to brew.

Double-click your Beer Brewer's Tools to open the brewing menu.

---

Skill Requirement

Beer Brewing uses the Cooking skill. Recipes range from 0.0 skill (absolute beginner) all the way up to 105.4 (grandmaster brewer territory). This makes it a great way to train Cooking from the ground up while producing something useful along the way.

---

Ingredients

Every recipe requires Water and Brewers Yeast plus a type of Hops. There are four varieties of hops, each unlocking at a different Cooking skill threshold:

Hops Type Skill Required to Use
Bitter Hops 40.0
Snow Hops 100.0
Elven Hops 110.0
Sweet Hops 120.0

If you don't have the skill to work with a particular hops type, you'll get the message: "You have no idea how to brew with this type of hops."

Bottle Details

All brewed bottles share the following properties:

  • Blessed — Your beer cannot be looted. Nobody steals another man's drink.
  • 10 drinks per bottle — Double-click to take a sip.
  • Cannot be refilled — Once it's empty, it's gone. Brew another.
  • Weight: 1 stone per bottle
  • Exceptional quality is possible — look for the maker's mark option in the crafting menu.

Tips

  • Miller Lite is your training beer. At 0.0 skill it's available to anyone. Brew your way up through the menu as your Cooking skill rises.
  • Wild Turkey is the pinnacle — requiring 90.0+ Cooking and Sweet Hops. If you can brew this, you've mastered the craft.
  • Hops skill gates and recipe skill ranges are different. You might have the Cooking skill to attempt a recipe but still lack the skill to use its required hops type. Check both the recipe requirement and the hops requirement.
  • Stock up on Water. Every single recipe requires 2 Water. Buy in bulk.
  • Brewers Yeast is always 1 per recipe — no exceptions, no variation.
  • Maker's Mark is available. Stamp your name on your finest brews and build a reputation as the server's top brewmaster.
  • The Beer Brewer NPC also serves as a good landmark — he's right by Main Street, so you'll pass him often.

The Beer Brewer NPC

The Beer Brewer is a vendor located west of Main Street, down the steps on the left. He sells all the ingredients and tools you need to get started. When you walk past, he'll greet you with one of his signature lines — he's enthusiastic about his trade, to say the least.

He sells:

  • Beer Brewer's Tools
  • Bitter Hops, Snow Hops, Elven Hops, Sweet Hops
  • Brewers Yeast
  • Water
