The Summoning is a quest in Dungeon Doom given by the ghostly NPC Victoria. She tasks you with collecting 1,000 Daemon Bones from the creatures of Doom so she can summon a powerful monster called the Devourer — a Bone Demon. Slaying the Devourer yields a Golden Skull, the toll required to persuade the ferryman Chyloth to carry you across Lake Mortis to face The Dark Father.
Background
Victoria tells you her story when you speak with her. Over 800 years ago, she and her sisters convinced Chyloth, the ferryman of Lake Mortis, to take them across the lake to battle The Dark Father — the source of all evil in Doom. Her entire party was destroyed except for her. As punishment for her defiance, The Dark Father cursed Victoria to wander the halls of Doom forever, unable to die and unable to leave.
Chyloth normally only ferries the souls of the undead, but he can be persuaded to take the living across — for a price. That price is a golden skull, found only in the belly of a hellspawn known as the Devourer. Victoria can summon the Devourer for you, but she needs 1,000 Daemon Bones to do it.
Starting the Quest
Speak with Victoria inside Dungeon Doom. She will explain the situation and offer to help you summon the Devourer. Accept her offer to begin collecting bones.
Quest Walkthrough
Step 1: Collect 1,000 Daemon Bones
Kill creatures throughout Dungeon Doom to collect Daemon Bones. The number of bones each creature yields depends on its Fame:
| Creature Type | Bones Dropped |
|---|---|
| Dark Guardian | 30 (fixed) |
| Creatures with less than 1,500 Fame | 1–9 (random) |
| Creatures with 1,500–19,999 Fame | 10–16 (random) |
| Creatures with 20,000+ Fame | 50 (fixed) |
Note: Summoned and tamed creatures do not drop Daemon Bones.
As you collect bones, hand them to Victoria by dragging and dropping them onto her. She will keep a running count of how many you've delivered. You can check your progress through the quest log at any time — it displays your current bone count out of 1,000.
Tip: You do not need to collect all 1,000 bones in a single session. Victoria stores your progress, so you can deliver bones over multiple trips.
Step 2: Vanquish the Devourer
Once you have delivered all 1,000 bones, Victoria will summon a Bone Demon (the Devourer) at the circle of stones located just south-east of her position. She warns you to take great care, as the beast takes many forms.
Fight and kill the Bone Demon. There are several possible outcomes:
- You kill it and are alive: You receive a message to search the Devourer's corpse for your prize. Loot the Golden Skull from the corpse.
- You kill it but die in the fight: You cannot claim your reward while dead. Victoria will summon the Devourer again when you return to her alive — you do not need to collect another 1,000 bones.
- You didn't contribute enough damage: If you did not earn looting rights on the Bone Demon (by dealing sufficient damage), Victoria will summon another one for you to try again.
- The Devourer is already summoned: If another player's Devourer is still alive at the altar, Victoria will tell you to return after it has been slain. She will summon yours once the altar is clear.
Step 3: Claim the Golden Skull
Loot the Golden Skull from the Bone Demon's corpse. This skull is used as payment to Chyloth the ferryman, who will then take you across Lake Mortis to face The Dark Father.
Canceling the Quest
If you cancel the quest before completion, any Daemon Bones you have already delivered to Victoria will be returned to your bank box. You will not lose your progress permanently, though you will need to restart the quest and re-deliver the bones.
Reward
| Reward | Details |
|---|---|
| Golden Skull | Looted from the Bone Demon's corpse; used to pay Chyloth the ferryman for passage across Lake Mortis to The Dark Father's lair |
Tips
- The quest has no cooldown and can be repeated immediately after completion. You can farm multiple Golden Skulls if you need them.
- Dark Guardians are among the most efficient bone sources at 30 bones each. Prioritize them when possible to reduce your total kill count.
- High-Fame creatures (20,000+ Fame) drop a flat 50 bones, making them the fastest way to reach 1,000 if you can handle them.
- Low-Fame creatures in Doom still contribute bones (1–9 each), so every kill counts even if the yield is small.
- You must have looting rights on the Bone Demon to claim the skull. Make sure you deal enough damage during the fight — don't let other players or pets do all the work without your participation.
- If you die during the Bone Demon fight, resurrect and return to Victoria. She will re-summon the Devourer for you without requiring another 1,000 bones.
- The summoning altar can only support one Bone Demon at a time. If someone else's Devourer is still alive, you'll have to wait for it to be killed before Victoria can summon yours.
