Herb Gathering is a custom harvesting system that allows players to collect a wide variety of herbs from plants found throughout the world. Using a special tool called a Boline, players can harvest herbs from flowers, bushes, and other vegetation. The system uses the Cooking skill to determine which herbs you are able to gather.
This will be a major part of the cooking expansion that is being rolled out in parts. This is one of the first parts of this expansion.
Getting Started
To begin gathering herbs, you will need:
- A Boline — a small ritual knife used exclusively for herb harvesting.
- Cooking skill — the higher your skill, the wider the variety of herbs you can gather.
- Access to harvestable plants — flowers, bushes, ferns, and other vegetation found in the wilderness.
The Boline
The Boline is a lightweight piercing weapon that doubles as your herb gathering tool. It resembles a skinning knife and has a distinctive appearance.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Skill | Fencing |
| Weapon Type | Piercing |
| Strength Required | 10 |
| Damage | 6 – 8 |
| Speed | 56 |
| Durability | 31 – 40 |
| Uses | 50 (100 if Exceptional quality) |
| Primary Ability | Infectious Strike |
| Secondary Ability | Shadow Strike |
Note: The Boline must be equipped or held in order to gather herbs — it cannot be used from inside your backpack. Each successful harvest consumes one use. When all uses are spent, the tool will break.
Using the Boline
To gather herbs:
- Equip the Boline or hold it in your hand.
- Double-click the Boline.
- Target a harvestable plant (flowers, bushes, ferns, etc.) within 2 tiles.
- If successful, the herb will be placed directly into your backpack.
You can also right-click the Boline for additional harvesting options via the context menu.
Cooking Skill & Herb Tiers
The herbs you can gather depend on your Cooking skill. Herbs are divided into three tiers based on the minimum skill required to harvest them. Higher-tier herbs are also rarer, appearing less frequently even when you have the skill to gather them.

These herbs are the easiest to gather and the most frequently found. They are a great starting point for new herbalists.

Template:Anchor Rare Herbs (87.5 Cooking)
These prized herbs are the hardest to find and require near-mastery of the Cooking skill. They appear infrequently even at high skill levels.

| Acacia | 87.5 | 1.5% |
| Copal | 87.5 | 1.5% |
| Dragonsblood | 87.5 | 1.5% |
| Frankincense | 87.5 | 1.5% |

Harvest Mechanics
| Mechanic | Detail |
|---|---|
| Skill Used | Cooking |
| Herbs Per Harvest | 1 – 3 |
| Harvest Range | 2 tiles |
| Respawn Time | 5 – 15 minutes |
| Tool Required | Boline (must be equipped) |
| Tool Consumption | 1 use per harvest |
When you attempt to harvest a plant, the system checks your Cooking skill against the herb's minimum skill requirement. If you fail the check, you receive the message: "You don't manage to gather any herbs." If the plant's resources are temporarily depleted, you will see: "There are no herbs to harvest here."
Each plant location can yield between 1 and 3 herbs before its resources are exhausted and need time to regrow. Respawn times range from 5 to 15 minutes.
If you fail to harvest a rare herb (87.5 skill tier), you may instead receive a common herb (Sage) as a fallback.

Where to Gather
Herbs can be harvested from a wide range of natural vegetation found across the world, including:
- Flowers — roses, orchids, poppies, snowdrops, and other blooming plants
- Ferns and grasses — forest ferns, tall grasses, and mossy ground cover
- Bushes and shrubs — decorative hedges, wild berry bushes, and leafy shrubs
- Crops and garden plants — cultivated wheat, onions, turnips, and similar garden plots
Look for any natural plant, flower, or bush while exploring. If a plant is harvestable, targeting it with your Boline will begin the gathering attempt. If the plant cannot be harvested, you will see the message: "You can't use a boline on that."
Tips & Advice
- Train Cooking first. Since herb gathering is governed by Cooking skill, raising your Cooking to at least 62.5 opens up the majority of available herbs. Pushing to 87.5 unlocks the rarest tier.
- Carry spare Bolines. A standard Boline has only 50 uses before it breaks. An Exceptional quality Boline doubles that to 100. Always bring a backup on long gathering trips.
- Equip, don't stash. The Boline must be equipped or in your hand — not just sitting in your backpack. You'll get a reminder if you forget.
- Move around. Each plant spot only holds 1–3 herbs before needing 5–15 minutes to respawn. Work a circuit through plant-rich areas rather than waiting at a single location.
- The Boline is also a weapon. In a pinch, your Boline functions as a Fencing weapon with Infectious Strike and Shadow Strike. It won't win any duels, but it's better than bare hands if something attacks you mid-harvest.
