The Killer Pumpkin is a Halloween elite that stands in Halloween Town — look to the left, in the pumpkin patch. The patch itself spawns the three types of carvable pumpkins used for Pumpkin Carving.

The Killer Pumpkin

The killer pumpkin is one of the tougher mobs in the area, and it can spawn as either a melee bruiser or a spell-caster (up to 160 Magery), so be ready for both [2].

Stat Value
Health 500
Mana 1,000
Damage 10–15 (physical)
Armor (VA) 49
Resistances Physical 55% · Fire 50% · Cold 50% · Poison 65% · Energy 80%

Things to watch out for

  • Spits acid when hit — every hit it takes has a 50% chance to make it spit acid at you (if you're within 12 tiles). The debuff (flavor-named "gooey nasty pumpkin hummus") lasts 10 seconds and does 25–30 damage per tick [2]. ***Keep moving so you don't take damage***
  • Ignores safe zones — the pumpkin ignores peace zones, so it can start fights on you right inside town [2].
  • Sees through you — it has 100 Detect Hidden, so hiding is pointless [2].
  • Sheds its own buffs when hit — it automatically dispels its beneficial spells when damaged [2].
  • Immune to bards — it cannot be charmed or provoked [2].
  • Don't steal from its corpse — lift an item from the killer pumpkin and it instantly turns on the thief [2].

Loot

Killer pumpkins drop generously:

  • Always: Wrapped Candy, a Pumpkin Carving Kit, and a Jack 'O'Lantern Mask [2]
  • Plus: a double Ultra Rich loot pack [2]
  • 20% special drop:
    • TOL era: an Obsidian Skull, Crystal Skull, Jade Skull, or a carvable tall pumpkin (or "gord" tall pumpkin) [2]
    • SA era: one of five painted masks (Evil Clown, Daemon, Plague, Evil Jester, or Porcelain) [2]

The Pumpkin Patch

Next to the killer pumpkin in Halloween Town, the patch spawns the three types of carvable pumpkins:

Pumpkin type
Tall Pumpkin
Green Pumpkin
Small Pumpkin

These are the raw material for Pumpkin Carving — and on the TOL era, the killer pumpkin itself has a 20% chance to drop carvable pumpkins directly [2].

Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin carving is a holiday craft that uses your Cooking skill [3].

What you need

  • A Pumpkin Carving Kit as your tool — killer pumpkins always drop one [2]. The kit wears out after repeated use ("You have worn out your tool!") [3].
  • One pumpkin: Tall, Green, or Small [3].

How it works

Open the Pumpkin Carving gump and pick a design. There is no minimum Cooking skill, but your success chance climbs steeply with Cooking — at low Cooking you will mostly just lose pumpkins to failed carves ("You failed to create the item, and some of your materials are lost.") [3].

On success you get the carved pumpkin mask. High Cooking can produce exceptional-quality masks, and with a maker's mark [3].

Carvable Designs

Tall Pumpkin — 11 designs: Ankh, Bat, Demon, Pixie, Scalele, Skull, Spider, Spirit, Tree, UO, Witch [3]

Green Pumpkin — 12 designs: Ankh, Bat, Cat, Devil, Ghost, Owl, Skull, Spider, Swirls, UO, Witch, Witch Broom [3]

Small Pumpkin — 6 designs: Cat, Octopus, Owl, Skull, Tongue-Out, Two-Face [3]

Tips

  • Bring healing and water for the acid — it can stack up to ~300 damage over its 10 seconds [2].
  • High-Cooking characters can farm carving: the pumpkin always drops carving kits, so you can restock your tool from the same mob that drops pumpkins [2][3].
