Token System

Overview

The Token System is the primary alternative currency on Banes World. Tokens are earned by slaying monsters, recycling unwanted items, or exchanging gold, and can be spent at the Token Vendor Stone on Mainstreet for exclusive rewards. All token balances are stored inside a personal Token Ledger, eliminating the lag of carrying thousands of physical currency items.

A single Token Ledger can hold up to 2,147,483,647 tokens (over 2 billion). Each ledger is bound to the character who claims it, so even if another player steals the physical book, they cannot access the tokens inside.

Getting Started — Read This First
⚠️	New players must double-click their Token Ledger to claim it before they can earn any tokens. When you first receive your ledger it is titled "An Empty Token Ledger." Double-clicking it while it is in your backpack will bind it to your character, rename it to "YourName's Token Ledger," and reset its balance to zero. Until you do this, monster kills and trash rewards will not be recorded.

Token Ledger

The Token Ledger is a blessed book (hue 1173) that serves as your personal token bank. It must remain in your backpack to function.

Claiming Your Ledger

1. Place the Token Ledger in your backpack.
2. Double-click the ledger.
3. If it is unclaimed, it will bind to your character and display your name.
4. The ledger gump will open, showing your current token balance.

If you double-click a ledger that belongs to another player, you will hear a refusal sound and receive the message: "This book is not yours and you cannot seem to write your name in it!"

Using the Ledger Gump

When you open your claimed Token Ledger, you will see the following options:

Option	Description
Add Tokens	Allows you to target loose token items in your backpack and absorb them into the ledger. Useful for depositing old-style physical tokens or Loot Token Checks.
Write a Check	Enter an amount (minimum 1,000 tokens) and click the check icon to create a Token Check. The tokens are withdrawn from your ledger and placed into a blessed check item in your backpack. Checks can be stored in your bank for safekeeping or traded to other players.
Extract Tokens	Enter an amount (maximum 60,000 at a time) and click the extract icon to create physical token items in your backpack. These are blessed and weightless.

Token Checks

Token Checks are blessed items that represent a fixed number of tokens. To redeem a check, place it in your backpack and double-click it — the value will be added to your Token Ledger automatically.

Loot Token Checks work the same way but are not blessed, meaning they can be looted. These are occasionally found as monster loot.

Earning Tokens

Monster Kills

You earn tokens automatically every time you deliver the killing blow to a creature, provided your claimed Token Ledger is in your backpack. The reward is calculated using a formula that considers multiple factors:

Factor	How It Affects Reward
Hit Points	Higher max HP creatures yield more tokens.
Resistances	Creatures with combined resistances above 100 give a bonus multiplier.
Fame & Karma	Higher fame and karma (positive or negative) increase the reward.
Spellcasting	Mage-type creatures receive a bonus based on their Magery, Eval Int, and Meditation skills.
Dragon Breath	Creatures with fire breath attacks receive an additional HP-scaled bonus.

The final reward includes a degree of randomness (roughly 40–50% of the calculated value), so you will see slightly different amounts each time. Even the weakest creatures are worth at least 1 token.

A system message in blue text will notify you of each reward: "You received X tokens."

Trash for Tokens

The Safe Trash 4 Tokens Backpack is a special blessed container (hue 1173) that rewards you for recycling unwanted items. You can carry it in your backpack and use it anywhere.

How It Works

1. Drag any unwanted, non-stackable item into the trash backpack.
2. You have a 3-minute safety window to retrieve items before they are permanently destroyed.
3. After the safety timer expires, all items in the bag are deleted and you receive 2–5 tokens per non-stackable item deposited directly into your Token Ledger.
4. You can also right-click the backpack and select Empty from the context menu to trash the contents immediately (respecting the safety window).

Restrictions

• Stackable items (bandages, reagents, arrows, etc.) will be deleted but grant no token reward.
• Blessed or insured items cannot be placed in the trash backpack.
• Gold cannot be trashed (you are advised to tithe it instead).
• Token items, Token Ledgers, and Token Checks cannot be trashed.

Weight Reduction

The trash backpack provides 100% weight reduction by default — items inside it do not count against your carry weight. This makes it ideal for holding loot you plan to recycle during a dungeon run.

Tip
The trash backpack is an excellent way to keep dungeons clean and earn a steady trickle of tokens. Get in the habit of tossing unwanted magic weapons, armor, and clothing into it as you adventure.

Spending Tokens

Token Vendor Stone

The Token Vendor Stone is located on Mainstreet. Double-click the stone to browse the vendor menu, which displays available items along with their token prices. To purchase:

1. Open the vendor stone.
2. Browse the item list — each entry shows the item name, token cost, and quantity.
3. Select the items you wish to buy. Some items may offer an optional Bless or Bond upgrade for an additional token cost.
4. Confirm your purchase. Tokens are deducted directly from your Token Ledger.

You must have your claimed Token Ledger in your backpack with a sufficient balance to complete any purchase.

Lady Luck — Lottery & Exchange

Lady Luck is an NPC also located on Mainstreet, near the steps. She offers two services: a Token Lottery and a Gold/Token Exchange.

Token Lottery

The lottery holds drawings on a recurring schedule. Right-click Lady Luck and select the ticket option, or type [lottery to check the current drawing status.

How to play:

1. Right-click Lady Luck and select the lottery option.
2. Enter the number of tickets you wish to purchase (up to 999,999 at once).
3. Each ticket (or batch of tickets) records a range of ticket numbers and the drawing number.
4. When the drawing occurs, a winning ticket number is announced via world broadcast.
5. If you hold the winning ticket, drag and drop it onto Lady Luck to claim your prize.

Prizes: The winner receives a Token Check for the full reward amount plus a Fireworks Wand. A celebratory fireworks display erupts above the winner, and a world broadcast announces the victory.

Expired tickets: Only tickets from the most recent completed drawing can be redeemed. Older tickets are expired and will be destroyed.

Gold/Token Exchange

If the exchange feature is enabled, right-click Lady Luck and select the exchange option. The current exchange rate is displayed in the gump (default: 1 Token = 5 Gold).

Sell Tokens	Enter the number of tokens to sell. Tokens are deducted from your ledger and you receive a Bank Check for the gold value.
