Uzeraan's Turmoil
Uzeraan's Turmoil is the new-player tutorial quest set in the city of Haven on the Trammel facet. A guard at Uzeraan's mansion recruits you to help defend the city from a Horde Minion invasion. The quest walks you through combat, exploration, NPC interaction, and banking while telling the story of Uzeraan's desperate search for reagents to cast a powerful spell against the invading hordes.
The quest adjusts its dialogue and item rewards based on your character's profession (Warrior, Mage, or Paladin), but the overall structure is the same for everyone.
Starting the Quest
When you approach Uzeraan's mansion in Haven, a guard will speak to you and explain that Uzeraan, the lord of the house and overseer of Haven, is looking for mercenaries to help fight the Horde Minions that have been terrorizing the city. Accept his offer to begin.
Quest Walkthrough
Step 1: Find Uzeraan
Enter the mansion and locate Uzeraan inside. He will greet you and explain the dire situation — Horde Minions are overrunning Haven and the city militia is falling.
Paladin Only — Tithing: If you are a Paladin, Uzeraan will first teach you about Paladin abilities and tithing points. You must visit the shrine near the mansion's front doors and tithe at least 500 gold before you can proceed. Return to Uzeraan once you have enough tithing points.
Step 2: Kill the Horde Minions
Uzeraan sends you to the mountain pass beyond the mansion to assist the militia. Follow the road marked with glowing runes outside the mansion to find the Horde Minions.
You must kill 5 Horde Minions in the Haven island area to complete this step. When you kill your first Horde Minion, a help window about healing will appear.
Paladin Progression: Paladins go through this step in three sub-stages. After killing your first Horde Minion, you'll receive a lesson about Karma and how it affects your Paladin abilities. You then continue killing until you reach 5 total.
Tips:
- Purchase equipment from Frank the Blacksmith, located just south of Uzeraan, before heading out.
- Mages should review their magic skills and healing spells. Warriors should review combat techniques and healing with bandages.
Step 3: Report to Uzeraan
After slaying the required Horde Minions, you'll realize the situation is hopeless — the creatures keep appearing out of nowhere. Return to Uzeraan and deliver your report.
Uzeraan will explain that the High Mage Schmendrick arrived with a powerful scroll that could turn the tide, but Schmendrick went into the mining caves to install teleporters for trapped miners and never returned. The miners who came back have all been driven mad, mumbling about "the souls of the dead seeking revenge."
Uzeraan gives you supplies for the journey:
- Warriors/Paladins: A bag of Night Sight and Healing potions.
- Mages: A bag of Travel Spells (in case you need a quick escape). Uzeraan also suggests casting Night Sight on yourself before entering, as the cave is dark.
Step 4: Find Schmendrick in the Mines
Step onto the teleporter against the wall in the main hall of Uzeraan's mansion. It will transport you into the mining caves.
Navigate through the caves until you find Schmendrick. Be careful — Restless Souls roam the caves and will attack you on sight.
Paladin Tip: Schmendrick suggests using your Enemy of One ability to help deal with the Restless Souls.
Step 5: Find the Apprentice
Schmendrick is too distracted by the strange activity in the caves to help directly. He tells you that his apprentice was carrying the Scroll of Power and ran off somewhere deeper in the cave. Search the cave to find the apprentice and obtain the Scroll of Power from him.
Once you have the scroll, find your way out of the cave and return to Uzeraan's mansion. Drag and drop the scroll onto Uzeraan to hand it to him.
If You Lose the Scroll: If you return to Uzeraan without the scroll, he will send you back to Schmendrick. If Schmendrick no longer has a replacement, you can purchase a blank scroll from the mage shop east of the mansion and bring it to Schmendrick so he can reconstruct the scroll from memory.
Step 6: Deliver the Scroll and Gather Reagents
Uzeraan reads the scroll and discovers it calls for three special reagents to complete the spell. He sends you to gather them one at a time and rewards you with useful items along the way.
Reagent 1: Fertile Dirt
Uzeraan asks you to visit the Dryad who lives in a grove south-west of the mansion. Use the teleporter in the mansion (Uzeraan has recalibrated it) to reach the Dryad's grove. Tell the Dryad that Uzeraan sent you and she will give you a patch of Fertile Dirt.
Uzeraan also gives you:
- A Treasure Map and shovel (to use at your leisure later).
- A Horn of Retreat — play it at any time to open a magical gateway back to the mansion. If it runs out of charges, hand it to Uzeraan or any mansion guard to have it recharged.
Return to the mansion and hand the Fertile Dirt to Uzeraan.
If You Lose the Dirt: If you return without it, Uzeraan sends you back to the Dryad. If the Dryad's supply is exhausted, she can transform an apple into Fertile Dirt for you. You can buy apples from the Provisioner's Shop east of the mansion.
Reagent 2: Vial of Blood
Uzeraan tells you there is a Vial of Blood locked in a chest in a small hut north of the mansion. Follow these directions: exit the front door heading east, follow the path north past several pedestals with lanterns, and continue until you reach a small hut. Go up the stairs, through the door, and open the chest inside.
Warning: On your way to the hut, you may be ambushed by a Horde Minion that spawns near you and immediately attacks.
Uzeraan also gives you supplies as thanks for the Fertile Dirt:
- Warriors/Paladins: Bandages and Healing potions.
- Mages: Reagents and spell scrolls.
Return the Vial of Blood to Uzeraan.
Reagent 3: Daemon Bone
The final reagent is the most dangerous to obtain. Uzeraan sends you to the Haunted Graveyard on Haven island, where you must kill Zombies and Skeletons and search their corpses for a Daemon Bone.
The Daemon Bone has a 25% chance to appear on a killed undead's corpse, so you may need to kill several before one drops. Check each corpse carefully.
Uzeraan gives you additional gear for this fight:
- Warriors: A magical silver sword (silver weapons deal double damage to undead).
- Mages: Explosion spell scrolls and a magical wizard's hat.
- Paladins: A Recall Rune (for use with Sacred Journey to travel to the graveyard).
Getting There:
- Warriors/Mages: Use the teleporter in the mansion.
- Paladins: Use your Sacred Journey ability on the recall rune north of Uzeraan.
Return the Daemon Bone to Uzeraan.
Step 7: Cash the Bank Check
With all three reagents delivered, Uzeraan's contract with you is complete. He pays you with:
- A 2,000 gold bank check
- An Enchanted Sextant (helps you locate Moongates and Banks)
Uzeraan recalibrates the teleporter one final time to send you to the Haven Bank, located south-east of the mansion. Step onto the teleporter, go to the bank, and cash your check to deposit the gold into your bank box.
The banker will explain that bank boxes are universal — anything you store in one bank can be accessed from any other bank in the land.
How to Cash a Check: Double-click the check while standing near a banker, or drop it into your bank box.
Rewards
| Reward | Details |
|---|---|

Tips
- The quest is a one-time tutorial — once completed, it cannot be repeated on the same character.
- If you leave Uzeraan's mansion for the first time, a tip about the Radar Map (ALT+R) will appear. Use the overhead view often to keep your bearings.
- The Horn of Retreat is extremely useful if you get lost or overwhelmed. Play it to open a gate back to safety. Hand it to any mansion guard if it runs out of charges.
- Mages: Uzeraan may warn you if you have too few reagents in your pack. Stock up on at least 30 of each of the eight reagent types (Black Pearl, Mandrake Root, Sulfurous Ash, Garlic, Ginseng, Blood Moss, Nightshade, Spider's Silk) from the mage shop east of the mansion.
- If you lose any quest item (Scroll of Power, Fertile Dirt, Vial of Blood, or Daemon Bone), the quest has recovery paths — NPCs will guide you to replace the lost item.
- The Horde Minions, Restless Souls, Zombies, and Skeletons on Haven island will bypass Young Player Protection during this quest, so be prepared for real combat.
